160 year old shipyard shutting down?
Cruise Industry News is reporting that this ship yard could be another casualty of the pandemic.
According to German sources and the Cruise Industry News, the historic Lloyd Werft shipyard might be in trouble and forced to close down by the end of the year. Workers were reportedly given the news and asked to begin negotiations to keep the yard open.
A majority stake of the yard was purchased in 2015 by Genting of Hong Kong who has suffered recent financial setbacks due to the worldwide pandemic.
For more than 160 years, the name of Lloyd Werft has been associated with building and converting unique ships and with a shipbuilding tradition that has spanned many generations of the same families.
